Welcome to my corner of the world!

Here's where you'll find pictures of my family, quilts and flowers, or whatever else I happen to take a picture of!

Awwwww.......
There has been a lot of talk about crocheting recently on some of the blogs I follow. I had started to think I needed to get my hooks back out and start crocheting again. Then, tonight, dd told me she was sending me a picture of Grace wearing the hat I'd crocheted while she was expecting....Now I know I have to get them out because it's just so darned cute on her, she needs more! DD had shown me a website of some lady in the St. Louis area who sells these little hats for big bucks. I bought a couple of patterns and followed them somewhat, and created my own masterpiece!

Caleb's new hobby
When she sent me the picture of Grace, she said, "I'm also sending you a picture of Caleb's new hobby! What a sweet hobby for a big brother to have, huh? She said any time she is feeding her the babyfood, Caleb has to help by giving her the bottle. Can we all say ADORABLE? hehe.....Guess I'm just a typical gushing grandma!

Cinnamon and Spice Trail Mix... This is for Pat . She blogged about the high cost of snacks and posted a recipe for caramel corn. This is a recipe I got at a woman's expo a few weeks ago and it turned out pretty good. Of course, me, being me, added a few things to it, which I'll tell you about, too. It is a really good snack mix, with lots of flavor. Alas, I didn't get a picture of it. Just didn't think about it.

1/4 cup tub margarine(I used real butter because that's what I had on hand, even though the nutritionist claimed the tub marg. is better for you)
1/4 cup honey
4 Cups Shredded wheat cereal, bite size(one box doubles the recipe perfectly!)
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup raisins
1/3 cup chopped dried apricots
1/3 cup chopped dried apples

In large skillet, over medium high heat, melt margarine and honey together. Stir in cereal to coat well. Cook and stir for 2 minutes to toast cereal. Remove from heat and let cool minutes.

In a large bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg; add prepared cereal, tossing to coat well. Stir in dried fruit; cool. Store in airtight container. Makes approximately 5 cups.

Nutrition info: 1/3 cup serving= 130 calories, 3 grams fat, 0.5 grams saturated fat, 28 mg sodium, 26 grams carbohydrates and 2 grams fiber.

Now for my add ins: I doubled the recipe and used the whole box of cereal and added extra dried fruit, such as dried berries and some dried nuts. I'm not a big fan of measuring anything unless I'm baking, so the only things I measured in this recipe were the butter, honey, sugar and cinnamon. The nutmeg, I grated fresh over the bowl til it "looked right" and the fruits I just added what looked right to me! It turned out great! In fact, I need to make another batch for our upcoming trip. Makes a great snack for the car.
Cherry and Roma Tomatoes
Garlic (I had a head of garlic start to sprout, so decided to break it up and plant each individual clove.....here is what I have after only about 10 days)
Better Boy and Roma Tomatoes

Basil, Oregano, Parsley and Dill

Cucumbers

Peppers

Seedlings... A few weeks ago, I jumped the gun and planted seeds in these seed trays. They are growing, and as you can see, some have been transplanted into small cups. I'm afraid I may have to go bigger before we can put them in the ground, though. Sometimes, I just get in to big of a hurry! The peppers are:bell peppers, jalapeno's, serrano's, sweet banana, cayenne's and cubanelles. We can a lot of salsa every year, so need lots of peppers! I haven't even started seperating them yet. Some of the Roma tomatoes are still lumped in groups, too. I'm waiting til I can move some of this stuff to my mother in law's and put it in a nice sunny window she has there. It runs the entire width of the trailer, so has lots of space. I've run out of room here at my house.

FINALLY...... we finally got to go see the grandkids this past weekend. It had been 7 weeks since we saw them, so we were really missing them! We had a great time, even if it were to short.
Caleb enjoyed "wii" bowling with us. Here he bowls with his Papa.

And here he sits on his new quilt(or blanket as he insists on calling it) that Grandma made for him.
Miss Grace is such a happy baby!

But here, you aren't sure what's going on in her little head.....I love this picture of her. It shows she's got attitude, just like her mama!
