I see yummy strawberries in my future!!!!

Happy Earth Day!! I don't go in to work til 2:15 this afternoon, so I celebrated earth day by working in my strawberry patch. I planted it among my roses last year because I wanted something there that I didn't have to replace every year and I LOVE LOVE LOVE strawberries. They were getting pretty weedy, though, so I decided that was my project for the morning. This is what they looked like when I first went out.
Pretty bad, huh? You can't even see the strawberries in this picture. But.................
Only 30-45 minutes later, they look MUCH MUCH better, don't you agree? The side of the house, on the other hand, is a different story. Maybe tomorrow when I get home, I'll work on scrubbing it down. Since the water will run into my strawberries, I wont' use any soaps, so will just have to use a big sponge and a lot of elbow grease! I also want to get some edging for the patch because the rocks that are there have been grown over, so hubby is complaining that he can't weed eat any more. Spring seems to have finally sprung and I've got the fever! Son also chopped up 2 tree stumps that were in the back yard. I'm SOO glad to get rid of those as we are getting ready to do some major work back there, too. Going to build a small patio for the grill and a walkway out to it. Using concrete pavers. Will keep you posted!

Talking to Papa.. Caleb has developed a new habit.....he insists on calling to talk to his Papa. Can tell he's really loving it, too, can't ya? Of course, Papa eats it up, too. He does a pretty good job talking on the phone. He tells us what he's watching, or what he's doing. He'll talk to Grandma, too, but if he's the one who insisted on calling, he has to talk to Papa first.

Isn't that just the most precious smile you ever saw? Grandma is getting anxious to see them soon!

Chickens... Ok, Patty keeps talking about her little puffballs(baby chicks), I thought I'd show a picture of the ones I handle! Here they are all ready to be put on the truck and shipped all over the country. You can't see them very well in this picture, but the boxes are full of ventilation holes. I can see the chicks thru the holes. Each of these boxes contains lots of baby chicks, so the noise level is high on "Chicken day" as we like to call Mondays and Wednesdays. Those are the days the local hatchery hatches out chicks and mails them. They have so many hours from the hatching to mailing in order to be able to mail them Priority. If they wait beyond the time limit, they have to mail them Express. This week, however, chicken duties are falling to another clerk as they want me up front to help handle the extra customers at the window that tax day brings.

More old pics... Been looking at some of the pictures I scanned while at Mom and Dads and ran across the pictures of the first 2 dresses I ever made myself. This first "beauty" was made when I was in the 6th grade. I was so proud of it. It was actually my Easter dress, so appropriate that I show it today! The squares you see were pictures of Holly Hobby. If I remember correctly, it had buttons on the front of the bodice.
This next one I thought I'd made in the 7th grade, but looking at the room behind me, it had to also been in the 6th grade. Which means it was actually made before the one above. We only lived in that house one year. We moved between my 6th and 7th grade years and the other house had dark panelling in the living room! This dress had a zipper in the back.

I've been a baaaaad girl...... I went a little nuts on ebay this morning and won all these FQ's. They were such a good deal, and I just got the fever. I have no specific plans for any of them other than the black and white ones. I've been collecting black and white fabrics for a while now for a black and white quilt. I should be pretty close to having enough now, so just need to pick a pattern and get busy!

Isn't she lovely..... Grace is such a smiley face. We took the kids to the outdoor flea market on Saturday and I pushed them around in the double stroller(Well, I pushed Grace and Caleb took turns between riding and walking with Papa). EVERY time I looked down at Grace, she was smiling. She babbled all day. I think she liked the feel and sound of her voice as she was being jostled along in the gravel walkways.

Having it all......at 2.... At 2 years old, Caleb has a tv, dvd player and recliner in his room.. is he set, or what? It is a good idea, though, this way, his mommy and daddy can watch what they want on tv and not have to watch the same movies over and over and over......he wants to watch his movies all the time. I just had to snap a picture of him all set and ready for his movie to come on....he was exhausted after spending the day with Gma and Papa.

So, before the movie was half over, this is the position he was in! He didn't wake at all when his mom moved him from his recliner to his bed.

Then, today, I finished this hat for Grace. I am in the process of planning a dress with some sort of crocheted trim to match. Haven't quite worked out the details of exactly how I'm going to do it, but I have several little dress patterns and know what I want to do, so it's only a matter of time.

A walk down memory lane.......... While visiting my mom and dad, I've been going thru photo albums and scanning some photos so I'd have copies of them. I bought the neatest little scanner that does the job really fast. Here are 2 pictures of me as a little Miss Priss that I was.... I was quite a ham judging by the pictures!
