Welcome to my corner of the world!

Here's where you'll find pictures of my family, quilts and flowers, or whatever else I happen to take a picture of!

Special find....
Today, hubby called me to tell me he'd be a little late getting home. He'd decided to start going thru some things in his mom's garage(she fell last year and is now in a nursing home). Imagine his surprise when he found these 2 jewells stuffed in a box in the rafters of her garage. It is not an enclosed garage, it's a metal building with 3 walls and one open end. Needless to say, being married to a quilter, he knew these deserved better treatment than that and brought them home. They appear to be identical, but there really are 2 of them. The one above, and the one below.
Sad to say, but I'm sure his mom never thought to offer them to me because she would have viewed them as "junk" and not worth anything.(otherwise, why would they be in the garage?). We think they were made by her grandmother who was born in the mid 1880's.

While I was photographing the quilts, I decided to take a couple of pictures of another couple of gems from his ancestors. The tables you see below were made by hubby's great grandfather. Aren't they beautiful? As you can see, Caleb's picture ranks really high to be allowed to sit on this table!

Valentines day.... I absolutely love having a little girl to buy clothes for again! I walked by this dress today and just could not resist it. I picked up a shirt and pair of shorts for the grandson, too, but boys are just not as much fun to dress. Jane mentioned tonight that she's surprised I haven't started making ruffles for Grace yet. I do have lots of patterns, I guess it's time to start sewing for her!

Out with the old......

In with the new...

No, we didn't get rid of the grandson, or even the dogs(although I'd like to get rid of the dogs)......but....we did get a new sofa!! The very first BRAND new one we've ever bought. In the past, we've either bought used, or had them given to us. This time, we went NEW! It's a LazyBoy, and has recliners on each end. You can also see our floor here. We've had a rug on it almost since we laid it, but I got tired of the dog hair on the rug, so rolled it up and put it in storage. Makes the room look so much bigger! We went with a neutral colored sofa, because we figure it will be a long long time before we buy another. Now I'm trying to decide what color pillows I want. When I make pillow covers, I'm also going to make valances to match. Can't decide whether I want to go burnt orange, or just go scrappy with it all to give it country charm. Also debated on muted red white and blue stars. Right now, we have 2 green recliners in the room, but they are being replaced with just one tan recliner, so the possibilities are limitless. I think what I'd like to do eventually, is to have a different theme for different times of the year. Wouldn't that be fun! Change out pillow covers and a valance and have a whole new decor! Hmmm.....now I'm wondering where I'm supposed to find the TIME to make this into a reality. HAHAHA

Birthdays. My computer died a couple of weeks ago, and I just realized I hadn't posted any pictures of Calebs birthday party. I got my new laptop this evening and thought showing these pics would be a fun way to break it in! The top one shows a good shot of how he had his hair spiked like Daddy's! The next 2 are just 2 of my favorite ones we got of Grace that day, then the bottom one shows Caleb being shy while everyone sang Happy Birthday to him. He didn't want to be sang to, he cried before we were done! Poor little guy. But wasn't his cake adorable?
